All good things come to an end, and so does our time on Kickstarter. This is it: the final official update by German Autolabs regarding Chris, the voice assistant for drivers. From today on this page on Kickstarter will not be actively managed any more.
By now we have sent 46 detailed updates, we read and answered hundreds of comments, and most importantly, we delivered our first physical product, Chris, the prototyped idea you backed with your pledge back in May 2017. We are very grateful that you made Chris possible. Thank you, once again, and make sure to visit chris.com to stay up to date.
alles Gute geht einmal zu Ende, und so ist das auch mit unserer Aktivität auf Kickstarter. Das hier ist das letzte offizielle Update von German Autolabs zu Chris, dem Sprachassistenten für Autofahrer. Diese Seite hier auf Kickstarter wird ab heute nicht mehr aktiv betrieben.
Bis hierher haben wir 46 Updates geschickt, haben hunderte von Kommentaren gelesen und beantwortet und, wohl mit Abstand am Wichtigsten, haben mit Chris ein echtes Hardware-Produkt ausgeliefert. Android: New Bluetooth technology
Great news for Chris users who may have experienced problems with the connection to their phones. For brands including Huawei, Xiaomi, Motorola, Sony, Blackberry and others, we are now rolling out a new Android Beta app that updates your device with new Bluetooth technology. This enables a stable connection to more phone models and car audio systems than ever before. Other benefits include:
True echo cancellation and better audio quality (dependent on car model)
Handsfree calls play through car stereo speakers
Steering wheel controls can now adjust call volume and music playback
Make sure to update your firmware and don’t forget to connect to your car audio or the FM transmitter directly via smartphone in order to use Chris.
How do I install the Android Beta app?
To access the download, head to the Google Play Store and click the “Become a Tester” button. Follow the instructions and make sure to also install the firmware update on your Chris device.
iPhone: iOS 13 officially supported
Chris is now ready for iOS 13. As Apple reworked a lot of technology under their hood and is still releasing hotfixes to make it all work, we decided to temporarily remove the support of Shortcuts and instead hand over to Siri to send or receive SMS.
One important note for all iPhone users: please disable all energy-saving features on your iPhone and also make sure that the Chris app never goes into the background while driving with Chris.
Chris is getting better with every release. We’ve just added a bunch of useful new skills.

Android: Neue Bluetooth-Technologie
Gute Neuigkeiten für alle Chris-Nutzer, die bisher Verbindungsprobleme mit ihrem Handy hatten. Für Hersteller wie Huawei, Xiaomi, Motorola, Sony, Blackberry und auch viele andere gibt es jetzt eine Android-Beta-App, die Deinen Chris auf eine neue Bluetooth-Technology upgradet. Damit wird die Verbindung stabiler, zudem werden mehr Telefone und Audiosysteme im Auto unterstützt. Weitere Vorteile:
Bessere Echo-Unterdrückung und Audioqualität (abhängig vom Automodell)
Freisprechen bei Anrufen durch die Autolautsprecher
Lautstärke kann vom Lenkraus aus gesteuert werden
Dieser Release erfordert ein Firmware-Update auf dem Chris-Gerät. Trenne die Verbindung von Chris zum Auto und verbinde von nun an das Smartphone direkt mit der Anlage oder dem FM-Transmitter.
Wie installiere ich die Beta-App?
Um die Beta-App herunterzuladen, gehe einfach in den Google Play Store und klicke unter “Für Betaprogramm anmelden” auf “MITMACHEN”. Folge einfach den Anweisungen und stelle sicher, dass auch die Firmware auf dem Chris-Gerät auf dem neuesten Stand ist.
iPhone: iOS 13 offiziell unterstützt
Chris ist jetzt bereit für iOS 13. Da Apple unter der Haube viele Technologie angepasst hat und weiterhin Hotfixes herausbringt, um die gröbsten Fehler zu beheben, haben wir die Shortcuts temporär entfernt und übergeben zum Empfangen und Versenden von SMS aktuell an Siri.
Wichtiger Hinweis für alle iPhone-Nutzer: Bitte schalte die Energiesparfunktion Deines iPhones aus und achte darauf, dass die Chris-App immer im Vordergrund bleibt.

Dear Backers,
Introducing Turn Assist: Chris now shows a bright and colorful 3D map with clear and glanceable details of upcoming turns. We’ve also added more frequent and precise turn distance instructions and offline map downloads that reduce data consumption. Navigating with Chris just got a lot better.
The new update process is fast and easy. Head to a WiFi network at home or work, connect the suction cup mount to power and snap Chris into place. Update the Chris app and follow the instructions. Once connected to Chris again, go to “Settings” and click “Software Update”. This triggers the update of the Chris firmware. Once everything is done, head back to the car and enjoy!
Next up: Support for iOS 13
We are already working on compatibility with iOS 13, due for launch by Apple on September 19th. The new iOS version introduces major changes to the way Bluetooth works. This means we need to change quite a few things, which takes some time. An iOS 13 hotfix for Chris with some minor bugs will be available at https://testflight.apple.com/join/hjGEhiVP before we roll out the fully-tested new version in the App Store.

Chris zeigt ab sofort helle, farbige 3D-Karten mit allen Details zur nächsten Abbiegesituation. So weißt Du immer, wo es langgeht. Zudem gibt es jetzt häufigere und deutlich präzisere Abbiegeanweisungen sowie Offline-Karten für reduzierten Datenverbrauch. Kurzum: Die Navigation mit Chris ist nochmal deutlich besser geworden!
Der neue Update-Prozess ist schnell und einfach. Nimm die Saugnapfhalterung mit nach Hause oder ins Büro, sorge für eine sicherere Stromverbindung und klicke Chris in die Halterung. Lade jetzt die Chris-App bzw. das Update herunter und folge den Anweisungen. Sobald Chris mit Deinem Telefon gekoppelt ist, kannst Du unter “Einstellungen” auf “Software Update” klicken. Das löst das Fimware-Update auf Chris aus. Warte ab, bis alles fertig ist - dann geht´s wieder ins Auto!
In Arbeit: Unterstützung für iOS 13
Wir arbeiten bereits an der Unterstützung für iOS 13, welches am 19. September von Apple released werden soll. Die neue iOS-Version kommt mit vielen Veränderungen im Blueooth-Bereich. Das heißt, dass wir ebenfalls einige Dinge anpassen müssen. Ein iOS 13-Hotfix für Chris mit kleineren Bugs steht in Kürze auf https://testflight.apple.com/join/hjGEhiVP zum Download bereit. Die finale, getestetet Version der Chris-App folgt dann in Kürze im App Store.
